Identify your skin type

The first and most important step in taking care of your skin is to understand your skin type.

Here are 2 ways of doing so:

The Bare Face Method

Wash your face with mild soap ๐Ÿงผ and pat dry. Leave for 30minutes and do not apply any products. Try to smile or make a facial expression, if your face feels patched or tight, your skin is most likely dry.

If you have a noticeable shine or oiliness on your forehead and nose, your skin is most likely normal/combination.

If you have the shine on your cheeks, along with that on the forehead and nose, you most likely have oily skin

The Blotting Paper Method

This is actually a faster and easier method.

Get some blotting paper. Alternatives to blotting paper can be coffee filters, wrapping tissue or toilet seat cover (please use a new, unused one ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ˜€).

Pat the blotting paper all over your face, if it picks up no oil, you likely have dry skin, if it picks up some oil from your forehead and nose, you most likely have normal or combination skin.

If it picks up a lot of oil from all over your face, for sure, your skin must be oily.

Dry Skin mostly feels tight throughout the day.

May be due to genetics, lifestyle, diet, environment or hormonal changes.

Exfoliating 2 to 3 times a week with not too abrasive products will get rid of the layer of dead skin and allow the skin to properly absorb serums and moisturizers for proper moisture.

Natural remedies for dry skin should include emollient ingredients such as castor, avocado, coconut or lavender oils.

People with Normal or Combination skin will feel dryness on cheeks while the T-Zone is oily.

A moisturizer which is not too oily is perfect for normal or combination skin to create a perfectly moisturized balance all over the face.

Best oils for normal/combination skin include Grapeseed, jojoba, lavender, lemon or tea tree oils.

Oily skin, although less prone to wrinkles is definitely more prone to acne, because of excess sebum production and clogged pores.

Best to exfoliate with products with antibacterial ingredients which kills acne causing bacteria and and even out skin tone, while fading out dark spots.

Best products for oily skin  include cosmetic clays for the absorption of oil and oatmeal for calming inflamed skin.
