Why exfoliate?

We may wash, cleanse, tone, moisturize and slather numerous products on our face, but without exfoliating, we give  these products no chance to perform the work which they are meant to do.

What is Exfoliation?

Exfoliation is the process of removing the dead skin cells from the surface of the skin, to give the new regenerated skin cells the ability to emerge at the surface.

Why should we exfoliate?

As we age, the process of skin regeneration becomes slower, so, as dead skin cells pile up on the surface of the skin, they make the skin look dull and ashen, they cause skin discoloration, acne, breakouts and dull complexion.

What exfoliation does is to shed off the dead skin cells and give way for the new cells to emerge at the surface of the skin, such that cleansers, toners, serums or moisturizers have the chance to penetrate the ‘now clean’ open pores.

Also, exfoliation does not only clean out your pores, it also increases blood circulation.

Methods of exfoliation

Exfoliation can be done using a scrub with an abrasive agent as  base, such as salt, sugar, coffee or oats or using humectants such as honey or yoghurt or using clays.

The method chosen will depend on how sensitive your skin is and which method best works for you. You can ask your aesthetician to recommend.

Personally, I believe that If you inculcate natural exfoliation into your regular skincare routine, there will be no need to use the more extreme measures.

Exfoliation as part of your regular skincare routine

Exfoliation should infact be the beginning of your regular  skincare routine if you desire smooth glowing skin always.

Limit exfoliation to twice a week and remember to scrub for  ‘longer’ instead of ‘harder’

Yours ‘glowingly’
